The Band recently celebrated their 5oth Anniversay and to celebrate in style we decided to have a Formal Dress Dinner in the Park Avenue Hotel in Belfast.

The Evening was a chance for the Band to celebrate 50 years and to unwind from the long season we had just finished.

We were joined from guests from the Millar Memorial F.B. and Mourne Young Defenders F.B. ,

Loyal Orders from both Northern Ireland and Scotland, Friends of the band from again Northern Ireland and Scotland and the Bands Family.

Also attending was the man who had the job of making our new uniform Ewan Mackay.

Both the Band Chairman and Secretary gave great speeches before the guests gave theirs, some great memories and stories were shared by the different speakers.

There were five long service medals presented on the night with Jason Bailie and Number 1 Sammy Orr both getting 20 Years Service Medals.

Jim weir and Alec Mcclelland Jnr both recieved watches for 30 years service, and Alec Mcclelland Snr recieved a ring for an amazing 45 years service.

Well done to the five men for their outstanding service to the Shankill Road Defenders.

After the meal was served we were treated to the Dunloy Accordian Orchestra who played superbly with their party pieces and marches.

The evening was complete with a disco that had everyone up on the floor.

The Shankill Road Defenders would like to thank everyone who attended and shared both their memories and their stories of the band from the past 50 years, their generous gifts and presentations and for their company on a very memorable night.

Below are some photographs of the Band and their guests taken by Photographer Cookie.
